Complete DD Form 214
For certain Veterans and Servicemembers a DD Form 214 must be turned in during the application process. Usually other banks and mortgage lenders do not help Veterans complete these types of government-required documents but not at Security America Mortgage! We pride ourselves on helping each Veteran through the ENTIRE VA loan process.
According to the VA, those identified below are required to have a DD Form 214:
- If you are a discharged Veteran
- If you are a Current or former National Guard or Reserve member who has been activated for Federal active service
- If you are a Discharged member of the Select Reserve who has never been activated for Federal active service a copy off your latest annual retirement points statement and evidence of honorable service.
- If you are a Surviving spouse of a Veteran who died as a result of military service and if you’re already receiving Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC), a copy of your award letter is required. Generally, you will already have a record on file at a VA reginal benefits office. If you don’t receive Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC), a copy of the Veterans DD Form 214 is required along with a copy of the Veterans death certificate and a copy of your marriage certificate. The VA recommends that you add a simple signed statement saying that you would like to apply for DIC. If you qualify for the home loan benefit, you probably qualify for the monthly payments under DIC. Also ensure that you put the Veterans Social Security number on all documents.
