GARRETT PAT PUCKETT

Garrett Puckett

Founder & CEO, Security America Mortgage, Inc. | NMLS #337550

Garrett Pat Puckett is a 5th-generation Texan, a proud American patriot, and the Founder and CEO of Security America Mortgage, Inc., a Texas-headquartered mortgage company he has owned and operated since 2005. Raised in a family whose roots are woven into the very fabric of American history — from the Revolutionary War to the beaches of Normandy — Garrett brings decades of mortgage expertise and an unwavering code of honor to every veteran and military family he serves.

A Legacy That Predates the Nation Itself

The Puckett family’s story in America begins before the United States existed. The original patriarch, John Puckett Sr. (c. 1620–1677), established the family’s American footprint by patenting land in Henrico County, Virginia, in 1665 — more than a century before the nation’s founding. From those colonial roots, the family’s tradition of service, sacrifice, and leadership has never wavered.

On his grandmother’s side, John Talley Jr. (1760–1843) served as a Dragoon — mounted cavalry — and fought at the Battle of Yorktown, the decisive siege that secured American independence. He stood on that battlefield alongside the French forces of General Rochambeau, allies whose intervention proved critical to the Revolution’s success.

That French alliance carries a remarkable personal dimension in Garrett’s own ancestry. His Doriocourt lineage traces to François d’Oriocourt (~1734), a decorated French military officer — first a Lieutenant in the French Naval Infantry, later a Captain in the Spanish Infantry following France’s cession of Louisiana — and a recipient of the prestigious Chevalier de St. Louis, one of France’s highest military honors. He was part of the same professional French military nobility that produced the officers and soldiers who crossed the Atlantic to help win American independence. In a very real sense, Garrett’s ancestors were on both sides of that historic alliance — one fighting at Yorktown, another belonging to the very French military tradition that made Yorktown possible.

François d’Oriocourt eventually established the family in New Orleans, where the name evolved from the noble d’Oriocourt to the Americanized Doriocourt. The family became part of the “Grandes Familles” of the French Quarter — the founding class of French military officers and nobles who built the city and shaped Louisiana across every change of flag.

Adding another layer to this extraordinary heritage, Garrett’s grandmother, Jeanette Frances Pierce, belonged to the same New England Pierce family that produced Franklin Pierce, the 14th President of the United States — a line tracing back to Thomas Pierce, one of the earliest settlers of colonial Massachusetts in the 1630s. The family that helped settle New England, produced a president, and shaped American political history is part of Garrett’s own bloodline.

The Puckett branch reached its most decorated expression in the modern era through Colonel Ralph Puckett Jr. (1926–2024) — a legendary U.S. Army Ranger and recipient of the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest award for valor, widely recognized as one of the most highly decorated soldiers in American history.

A Family Forged in the World Wars

Garrett’s direct family lineage is deeply embedded in both World Wars.

His maternal great-grandfather, Charles D. Doriocourt Sr., served in the U.S. Marine Corps on the Western Front in France during World War I. He was Wounded in Action in combat — injuries that qualified him for the Purple Heart, though General MacArthur would not re-establish the medal until 1932, years after the war ended. A firsthand account captures the raw intensity of what he endured on the front lines, describing the experience simply as “Hell” — noting he didn’t mind the small arms fire, but that the mortar and artillery were something else entirely. After surviving the war, he returned home and became a foundational figure in Texas finance, helping to co-found the Houston Postal Credit Union in the 1940s — a lasting legacy built on the same integrity he carried into battle.

Garrett’s maternal great-uncle, Patrick Williams — known within the family as “Uncle Pat” — was a celebrated hero of World War I. His legacy lives on directly in Garrett’s name: his middle name, Pat, was chosen specifically to honor him.

In World War II, the family’s service deepened across multiple branches. Garrett’s uncle, Charles Doriocourt II, served in the U.S. Army and survived two of the European theater’s most brutal campaigns: the Normandy invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he used the GI Bill to return to college — and years later, chose to serve again with Army Intelligence. Garrett’s paternal grandfather, Harlan N. Puckett, held the rank of Captain in the U.S. Army during WWII, serving with distinction as a paymaster.

Perhaps the most remarkable individual story from that era belongs to Garrett’s cousin, Frankie Puckett — a trailblazing woman who served in Army Intelligence during and after WWII. While stationed in London, she met Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill — a testament to the significance of the work she was doing for her country.

Garrett’s father, Patrick Marshall Puckett, continued the tradition through dedicated service in the Texas National Guard, where he served as a Medic, providing critical frontline medical care and triage. Carrying on the family’s Marine Corps legacy, two of Garrett’s cousins have served in the U.S. Marine Corps, while another cousin currently serves as an attorney in the U.S. Navy JAG Corps.

From Heritage to a Calling

This extraordinary lineage is not merely a point of pride for Garrett — it is the foundation of his professional mission.

Exposed to real estate and lending at an early age, he purchased his first home at just 22 and built deep, hands-on experience across the industry. In 2005, he channeled that experience and his family’s generational values of integrity, responsibility, and service into founding Security America Mortgage.

The company’s mission is clear: to help veterans fully understand and utilize their VA home loan benefits, while also offering conventional and FHA financing solutions. Garrett is the primary author of educational content on SecurityAmericaMortgage.com, where he writes extensively about VA loans and VA one-time close construction loan programs. His expertise in VA construction lending has been featured across mortgage and real estate platforms nationwide, helping veterans navigate some of the most complex loan structures with clarity and confidence.

Garrett’s commitment to the veteran community extends well beyond the closing table. He has actively participated in veteran support initiatives including the Wounded Warrior Project, because he understands that serving those who served is not a business strategy — it is a personal responsibility rooted in everything his family represents. The same honor, integrity, and dedication that carried his ancestors through battlefields from the Western Front to Normandy to the Battle of the Bulge is the same standard veterans can expect when they work with Security America Mortgage.

Personal

Garrett is married and the proud father of his son, Pierce — a name chosen deliberately to honor both the Pierce family’s deep American legacy and the Puckett family heritage that has defined generations of service and leadership. Outside the office, Garrett stays active through golf, tennis, surfing, kiteboarding, and rock climbing — pursuits that reflect the discipline, focus, and calculated decision-making he brings to every loan and every client relationship.

GARRETT’S MILITARY FAMILY TREE…“My maternal grandfather, Charles D. Doriocourt, Sr. served in the US Marine Corps in WWI. He was wounded in action in France and would have received a Purple Heart, but these were not available until later in history. My maternal uncle, Charles D. Doriocourt, Jr. served in the US Army in WWII. He survived the Normandy invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. He too was a decorated war hero. Uncle Charles went back to college after the war on the GI bill. Many years later he rejoined army intelligence. My fraternal grandfather, Harlan N. Puckett was a captain in WWII and a paymaster. A cousin, Frankie Puckett, a very interesting lady, served in WWII and was in army intelligence during the war and post-war. She met Sir Winston Churchhill while in London. Two cousins served in the marines, and one is serving now as a navy attorney.”

Mark was great. Since we were in a different time zone, he would stay after work to talk to us. Throughout the process, he was very patient and answered all of the many questions we had about our VA loan. We would highly recommend him and his team.

Let me first say that this is truly a testimony. My husband and I started our journey with Security American Mortgage about 2 years ago. We have been through 3 sets of plans and 2 builders that needed to be VA approved, which this was achieved. I must say during this process both Jason and Sandra have been exceptional to work with. My husband and I understood each step of the process (VA Construction) and communication was effective and done in a timely manner. Both Jason and Sandra worked tirelessly to help make our dreams come true...glory be to God. Thank you all at Security American Mortgage!!!!

Karen S. was a LIFESAVER to my family and I when buying our first home. We had an issue with a previous lender which caused many issues when closing but luckily we got in contact with Karen and she helped us get the home we wanted, close on time and making the home buying process a complete success for my family and I. We are so happy she helped us out, she's AMAZING at what she does and I cannot be happier. I definitely recommend Karen S. and her team. They know what they are doing and make sure everything is 100% explained and understood with her customers.

I have been in real estate 🏡 for about 13 years and since then I have been referring my clients to Jason and he and his team have always done an awesome job. My hubby and I decided to buy a home using the VA loan and we couldn’t have bought it if it wasn’t for Jason and Nadia knowledge and experience helping vets to achieve this ultimate dream. It was a long process and they were there with us in each step. It was a remarkable experience. My hubby couldn’t believe that it was possible to get a home with the VA loan in a market that is all about investors and cash offers. Yet, with God and Security American 🇺🇸 Mortgage it was possible. Thanks 🙏🏼 guys!!! We will keep referring you to clients and family.
